Here are reports from agents about the Abu Sayaff links to Al Qaeda
1. Saudi Arabian business man, Muhammad Jamal Khalifa, the brother-in-law of Osama bin Laden, met with Abdurajak Janjalani, founder of Abu Sayyaf, in the 1990’s.
2. In the 1980’s, Khalifa laundered money through Islamic charities in the Philippines to Janjalani.
3. The network of Islamic charities and university in Zamboanga of Khalifa were used to bankroll extremists. Abu Sayyaf received training and money from this network.
4. Abu Sayyaf was trained by Ramzi Yousef, who was convicted in 1993 in the World Trade Center bombing, and who himself has links to Al Qaeda.
5. In 1995, Ramzi Sayyaf worked with Abu Sayyaf to blow up 11 airliners over the Pacific Ocean.
6. Abu Sayyaf members are known to have trained with Al Qaeda leaders in Afghanistan.
7. Abu Sayyaf, under the leadership of Janjalani, was plugged into the international network of Islamic militants which received support from Osama bin Laden.
8. A place of high Islamic concentration in Mindanao, Zamboanga City, was visited often by members of Al Qaeda.
9. In May 2004, Khair Malayan Mundus, a suspected Al-Qaeda militant and intermediary of al-Qaeda funds, was arrested by intelligence agents in Zamboanga. Approximately $63 thousand were given to Khadaffy Janjalani, Abdurajak Janjalani’s younger brother, for terrorist operations.
